Summary: Most of the people who grew up with a fascination for horror in the 2000s have one man to thank. That man being the good author R.L. Stine. He's had a long, prosperous career writing horrific tales that skirt the line between terrifying and hilarious, but his magnum opus is the Goosebumps franchise. Just imagine if the diverse creatures he made were real...

History: R.L. Stine was always a recluse, never quite understood by his peers. To cope with his loneliness, he used a magical typewriter to create a dense variety of monsters and beings to be his friends. Chief among them was Slappy the Dummy (don't call him a dummy, mind you). But Slappy's devious nature, along with the sheer power of the rest, forced Stine to trap them in special manuscripts for years. The only one he kept around was Hannah, spiritual protagonist of "The Ghost Next Door", and his sort-of daughter. Then one day, some overly curious kids accidentally let Slappy loose, and the puppet quickly decided to exact vengeance for the imprisonment by unleashing all of Stine's creations onto the town of Madison, Delaware. Now, Stine must write a new story before it is too late.

Notable Kills: Nothing special, if there even were any at all.

Final Fate:After Stine is finally able to get a new book done just as Slappy releases the Blob that Ate Everyone, all of the monsters are sucked into it and sealed away for good. However, Hannah gets to stay...though the Invisible Boy somehow escaped his fate. Later, Slappy is released again, and even after a harrowing defeat, manages to trap Stine in a new book. However, just how canon the second film is remains more than a bit debatable.

Powers/Abilities: All of the monsters retain most of their abilities from their books, though some gain new ones, such as Slappy being capable of teleporting. All the monsters are also basically unkillable.

Weakness: They can be hindered through conventional means, but the surefire way to beat them is to open up their original manuscript in front of them to imprison them. Failing that, use the original typewriter to write a new story, and alter their fates to your heart's content.

Scariness Factor: 4-Hordes and hordes of beasts, each and every one of them having their own ways to scare you, all under the employ of one of R.L. Stine's most tenacious and creepy villains. Slappy stands out above them all in particular for being completely real, no CGI required, even if he is voiced by the hilarious Jack Black. Sadly, said CGI fails a lot of the other monsters at times, such as the Werewolf and the Blob. But other than that, beasts like the Mantis and some of the Costume Monsters serve to remind us that Stine is one scary writer.

Trivia: -Many of the monsters in this film deviate from their canon selves rather significantly. For instance, there were pedophile metaphors galore with Slappy, the Abominable Snowman was a much gentler giant, and the Mantis was a mechanical prop.

-As many know, this was hardly the first time Goosebumps was put on a screen. There was a whole anthology TV series full of short adaptations of the books. Though many deviated from the originals in a variety of ways. For instance, "Deep Trouble" went from a tale of the endearing nerd Billy Deep's encounter with friendly mermaids to a mind-boggling romp involving giant animals that wouldn't be out of place in a Bert I. Gordon movie and horrific mer-creatures out for justice (it was still pretty good, though). Oh, and Slappy was a redhead that scared us kids sh*tless before getting obliterated by lightning.
